Jorgensen
ที่มาและประวัติศาสตร์
Patronymic surname meaning 'son of Jorgen', the Scandinavian form of George, from the Greek 'Georgios' meaning 'farmer' or 'earth-worker', derived from 'ge' (earth) and 'ergon' (work). Saint George's cult, spread by the Crusades, made the name Georg or Jorgen popular in Norway and Denmark from the twelfth century onward. Jorgensen (with the characteristic Norwegian vowel o-with-stroke, written as o in romanised form) is among the top twenty most common Norwegian surnames and is equally prevalent in Denmark, reflecting the long shared Danish-Norwegian cultural history of the Kalmar and Dano-Norwegian unions.
