Origen e historia

Chatterjee is the anglicised form of 'Chattopadhyay', a Kulin Brahmin surname of West Bengal derived from the name of a village 'Chatta' and 'upadhyaya' (teacher/priest). Along with Banerjee and Mukherjee, it forms the triumvirate of the most prestigious Bengali Brahmin surnames. During the Bengal Renaissance, Chatterjees played a central role in intellectual, literary, and political life.
