Origine et histoire

Châu is the Sino-Vietnamese reading of 周 (Zhōu), the name of the longest-ruling dynasty in Chinese history and a character meaning 'universal' or 'all-encompassing.' The surname arrived in Vietnam through Chinese settlers and administrators. It is common among Hoa (ethnic Chinese Vietnamese) communities in southern Vietnam, particularly in the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City's Chinatown (Chợ Lớn).
