Origine et histoire

Chauhan (also Chahamana) is the name of one of the four great Agnikula (fire-born) Rajput clans of medieval India. The name likely derives from 'chatur' (clever/four) combined with a locative suffix. The Chauhan dynasty ruled from Ajmer and Shakambhari in Rajasthan from the 7th century onward. Today the surname is widespread among Rajput communities of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
