Origine et histoire
The Gao surname descends from Gao Xi, a grandson of the Zhou Dynasty ruler Jiang Ziya who was granted the fiefdom of Gao in present-day Shandong province. The character 高 literally means tall or high, evoking nobility and aspiration. Another major lineage descends from the Tang Dynasty imperial family Li, whose members adopted Gao after being granted that surname.
