Origine et histoire
Hồ derives from the Chinese character 胡 (Hú), an ancient designation for northern nomadic tribes and later a common Han surname. The name is eternally linked to Hồ Chí Minh, founder of modern Vietnam. Historically, the Hồ Dynasty (1400–1407), founded by Hồ Quý Ly, briefly ruled Vietnam before the Ming reconquest. The surname is distributed across central and northern Vietnam.
