Origine et histoire

Lâm corresponds to 林 (Lín), meaning 'forest,' one of the most common surnames in southern China and among overseas Chinese communities. The surname arrived in Vietnam in large numbers during the 17th and 18th centuries with Ming loyalists and Hokkien traders who settled in the Mekong Delta region. It remains particularly concentrated in southern Vietnam and among the Hoa (ethnic Chinese Vietnamese) community.
