Origine et histoire
The Liu surname is most famously associated with the founding family of the Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD), established by Liu Bang (Emperor Gaozu). The Han Dynasty is considered one of China's greatest imperial periods, and the ethnic Han Chinese derive their name in part from this dynasty. The character 劉 originally referred to an axe used in punishment, and many Liu families trace their ancestry to the Han imperial line.
