Origine et histoire

Mori means 'dense forest' (森) and is one of Japan's most ancient topographic surnames. The character 森 depicts three trees, emphasizing the denseness of the woods. The most famous Mori clan, descending from the Seiwa Genji, became one of the most powerful daimyo families of the Sengoku period, ruling vast territories in western Honshu. Their domain later became Tsuwano domain in present-day Shimane Prefecture.
