Origine et histoire
The Tang surname has two principal origins. The oldest traces to the ancient state of Tang, granted to the Duke of Tang by the Zhou king. The more famous lineage derives from the imperial family of the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD), the Li clan, some of whose descendants adopted Tang as a surname. The name is especially common in Guangdong, and overseas Chinese from Cantonese regions often romanise it as Tong.
