Origine et histoire

Yadav derives from the Sanskrit 'yādava', referring to descendants of the legendary King Yadu, an ancestor of Lord Krishna in Hindu mythology. The surname is used by members of the Ahir community across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, and as Jadhav in Maharashtra. Yadavs are classified as Other Backward Classes (OBC) and have significant political influence in North India's caste-based electoral politics.
