Origine et histoire

Yamamoto means 'base of the mountain' (山本) and originated as a topographic name for families dwelling at the foot of a mountain. Multiple independent Yamamoto lineages arose across Japan wherever settlements formed near prominent peaks. The name is especially concentrated in Hyogo, Osaka, and Nagano prefectures, and several powerful samurai clans bore the name during the Sengoku period.
