Origine et histoire

The Zhao surname derives from the ancient state of Zhao, one of the Seven Warring States of ancient China. The clan traces its lineage to Zao Fu, a charioteer of King Mu of Zhou who was granted fiefdom for his skill. Zhao was also the imperial surname of the Song Dynasty (960–1279 AD), China's most commercially and culturally advanced dynasty. The character 趙 appears first in the classic text Baijiaxing ('Hundred Family Surnames').
