Asal-usul & Sejarah

Disputed etymology: most likely derived from the Old French 'fraisier' (strawberry plant), the clan's heraldic symbol, suggesting a Norman origin possibly linked to a place called Freseliere in Anjou. An alternative derivation proposes Old French 'fraisil' (charcoal cinders), also heraldic. The de Fraser family arrived in Scotland in the twelfth century and established themselves in East Lothian before expanding to Tweeddale and then the north-east Highlands, where Clan Fraser of Lovat became dominant in Inverness-shire. Clan Fraser rose to military prominence in the Jacobite risings; Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat, was the last man beheaded on Tower Hill, executed in 1747.
