Asal-usul & Sejarah

Ito is another Fujiwara-derived 'to' surname, with 'I' (伊) signifying the Ise region of present-day Mie Prefecture. Families who served the Ise Shrine or governed the Ise area under Fujiwara authority adopted this name. The Ito clan became a powerful samurai house in Hyuga Province (Miyazaki) during the medieval period. Today the surname is widespread but especially common in Aichi and Kinki regions.
