The Jangsu Hwang clan traces its origin to Hwang Gyeong, a Silla-era official who settled in the Jangsu area. This is the largest Hwang clan in Korea. The clan produced many Joseon-era scholars and is known for Hwang Hui, a legendary chief state councillor.
