Tanaka

기원 및 역사

Tanaka means 'middle of the rice field' (田中) and is a topographic surname denoting a family dwelling among paddy fields. It emerged during the Nara period when many Japanese families took surnames reflecting their agricultural surroundings. The name is widely distributed across Japan but is most concentrated in western Japan, particularly in Osaka, Hyogo, and Fukuoka prefectures.
