الأصل والتاريخ

Patronymic surname meaning 'son of Erik', from the Old Norse 'Eirikr', composed of 'ei' (ever, always) and 'rikr' (ruler, powerful) — thus 'ever powerful' or 'eternal ruler'. The name was borne by numerous prominent Scandinavian figures, most famously the Norse explorer Erik the Red (Eirik Raude, fl. 985), whose colonisation of Greenland and whose son Leif Eriksson's voyage to North America made the name synonymous with Viking exploration. Eriksen in Norway and Eriksen in Denmark share the same root, distinguishable from Swedish Eriksson by the -en suffix.
