Yamada

Yamada means 'mountain rice field' (山田) and refers to terraced paddies on hillsides, a common agricultural feature across Japan. The surname arose independently in many regions where mountain farming was practiced. It is notably associated with Yamada Hachimangu shrines and is especially common in Hyogo, Osaka, and Aichi prefectures. Yamada is also a generic placeholder name in Japan, similar to 'John Doe' in English.
