Sorensen
الأصل والتاريخ
Patronymic surname meaning 'son of Soren', the Norwegian and Danish form of Severinus, from the Latin 'Severus' meaning 'stern', 'strict', or 'severe'. The name Severinus was borne by several early Christian saints and spread into Scandinavia through the Church, where it was contracted to Soren. Soren Kierkegaard is perhaps the most internationally famous bearer of a Sorensen-family given name. Sorensen (with the characteristic Norwegian o-with-stroke vowel) is among the most recognisably Scandinavian surnames and is equally common in Denmark as in Norway.
