Yamaguchi

起源与历史

Yamaguchi means 'mountain entrance' or 'mountain pass' (山口) and refers to families living at the gateway to a mountain valley or mountain road. The name is associated with Yamaguchi Prefecture in western Honshu, historically an important regional capital under the Ouchi clan during the Muromachi period. The Ouchi's patronage of culture made Yamaguchi the 'Kyoto of the West'. The surname is most common in western Japan and Kyushu.
