Origen e historia

Kondo is a 'to' surname where 'Kon' (近) means 'near' or 'nearby', indicating a Fujiwara branch residing close to the main Fujiwara line or central power. The name appears in samurai records from the Kamakura period onward. The Kondo clan became legendary in the Bakumatsu era through Kondo Isami, commander of the Shinsengumi, the elite pro-shogunate police force that became icons of the dying samurai age.
