The Lee surname is the second most common in Korea and was the royal surname of the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1897). The Jeonju Lee clan, founded by Yi Seong-gye (King Taejo), became one of the most prestigious lineages. Other major branches include the Gyeongju, Deoksu, and Yeonan Lee clans.
