Nguyen
阮 — Ancient state name (阮), a Zhou-dynasty vassal state in present-day Gansu
Происхождение и история
Nguyễn is the most common surname in Vietnam, carried by roughly 38% of the population — one of the highest concentrations of a single surname in any nation on earth. The name traces its Sino-Vietnamese roots to the Chinese character 阮 (Ruǎn), a Zhou-dynasty vassal state, and was spread widely during the Ming-dynasty period when Chinese officials assigned surnames to Vietnamese subjects. The last imperial dynasty of Vietnam (1802–1945) bore this name, and many people adopted it following the dynasty's patronage.
