Laitinen
Asal-usul & Sejarah
Built from 'laita', a Finnish word meaning 'side', 'edge', or 'border' — as in the edge of a field, the shore of a lake, or the margin of a forest — combined with '-nen'. The name thus signifies 'one from the edge' or 'border dweller', likely designating families whose farms or settlements were on the periphery of a village, field system, or natural feature. Alternatively, some scholars link it to 'laita' in the sense of a boat's gunwale, suggesting a coastal or fishing community origin. Laitinen is broadly distributed across southern and central Finland with no sharp regional concentration.
