Shimizu

由来と歴史

Shimizu means 'clear water' (清水) and originates as a topographic surname for families living near a pure spring or clear stream. The name is closely associated with Kiyomizudera temple in Kyoto, whose name shares the same characters. Multiple Shimizu samurai clans emerged across Japan, and the name is most concentrated in Shizuoka, Nagano, and the Tokai region where many clear mountain streams flow.
