Yamazaki

由来と歴史

Yamazaki means 'mountain promontory' or 'mountain cape' (山崎) and refers to a spur of high ground jutting from a mountain range — a strategic and easily defensible location. The Battle of Yamazaki (1582) where Toyotomi Hideyoshi defeated Akechi Mitsuhide took place at such a location. The name is widespread across Japan and is slightly more common in western Japan, Kinki, and Kyushu regions.
