由来と歴史

The Yu (余) surname traces its origins to Tu Ao, a prince of the state of Chu during the Spring and Autumn period, whose name 'Tu Ao' (涂敖) evolved phonetically into Yu. A second lineage descends from Yu Jun, a minister of the state of Jin who was granted the surname for merit. The character 余 literally means 'surplus' or 'remainder' and also served as a literary first-person pronoun.
