Milne
Происхождение и история
Occupational surname from Scots and northern English 'miln' or 'milne', a variant of 'mill' — denoting someone who worked at or lived near a mill. The Scots form 'Milne' preserves the older spelling of the word and is distinctively concentrated in north-east Scotland, particularly Aberdeenshire, where it is far more common than in any other region. Mill workers were essential to every rural community, grinding grain for bread, and the occupational name was acquired independently by many unrelated families across the north-east over several centuries.
