Origin & History
Đặng is the Sino-Vietnamese rendering of 鄧 (Dèng), the name of an ancient Chinese state during the Shang Dynasty in what is now Henan province. The surname was carried into Vietnam through successive waves of Chinese immigration and administrative influence. It is particularly concentrated in the northern provinces of Vietnam and has produced numerous Confucian scholars and mandarins throughout the country's history.
