Nature surname meaning 'linden mountain' or 'linden hill', composed of the Swedish 'lind' (linden tree, lime tree) and 'berg' (mountain, hill). Along with dozens of similar two-element nature names, Lindberg was adopted during the Swedish name reform of the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, when soldiers and later civilians were required to take fixed surnames.
