Origin & History
The Luo surname derives from the ancient Luo tribe, who served as official bird-catchers for the Zhou Dynasty court. Their territory was along the Luo River (洛水) in Henan province. The character 羅 depicts a net used to catch birds. Over centuries the clan spread southward into Jiangxi, Guangdong, and Fujian. Many Hakka communities in southern China and overseas carry the Luo surname.
