Origin & History

Sasaki derives from a place called Sasaki in Omi Province (modern Shiga Prefecture), where the Sasaki clan — a branch of the Uda Genji imperial lineage — established their domain. The characters 佐々木 combine repeated 'sasa' (bamboo grass) with 'ki' (tree), referencing the local landscape. The Sasaki clan became powerful warriors who dominated the Lake Biwa region and produced many renowned samurai during the Kamakura and Muromachi periods.
