Origin & History
Trần is the second most common Vietnamese surname, corresponding to the Chinese character 陳 (Chén). It rose to prominence through the Trần Dynasty (1225–1400), which defeated three Mongol invasions and presided over a golden age of Vietnamese culture and literature. The surname was carried into Vietnam from southern China during centuries of Han migration and political integration.
