Seonu is one of Korea’s rare two-character (compound) surnames. The Taewon Seonu clan traces its founding ancestor to Seonu Hyeok, a Goryeo-era official. The surname is related to an ancient Chinese clan name Xianyukongcen and is extremely uncommon in modern Korea.
