Origin & History

Derived from the Latin personal name Vincentius, from 'vincere', meaning 'to conquer' or 'to win'. The name was popularized throughout France by veneration of Saint Vincent of Saragossa, the 3rd-century Spanish deacon and martyr, and later by Saint Vincent de Paul (1581–1660), the French priest celebrated for his charitable works among the poor.
